Akela-Leader
of the Pack
In the quiet of the north, a pack of wolves moves silently across the tundra.
The leader - Akela stands off in the distance. His powerful gaze is full of strength
and understanding. With eyes of fire, we are both welcomed and cautioned to keep
our distance. Akela is both gentle and prepared to do what he must to survive.
Through the ages, wolves have been thought of as vicious, evil creatures. Man
has been killing them to near extinction all over the world. Wolves have been
destroyed senselessly. As I painted, I saw the portrait of a sinner - a wolf
like character in need of forgiveness. I also saw a gentle friend. His fur was
as white and as soft as snow. Though we all have sinned, we can obtain forgiveness.
There are two Bible verses which sum up what I am trying to say. Isaiah 1:18
- “Come now and let us reason together, saith the Lord; though your sins
be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson,
they shall be as wool,” and I John 1:9 - “If we confess our sins,
He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Akela
now becomes a symbol of forgiveness.
